I am expanding the insurance plans that I take at the clinic starting June 1, 2025. I will be taking Aetna, Humana, Kaiser and TriWest Healthcare. I'm happy to be able to serve more people using insurance!
In some cases, a referral will be required. If you are not sure, you can provide me with your information, and I will find out for you.

A quick, little 'meet your acupuncturist' post today.
What do I love about acupuncture?
I love acupuncture because it works with your energy or Qi. And secondly, we treat the 'root' and the 'branch' in East Asian medicine. What do I mean by that? The 'branch' is the symptom you are coming in for, the pain & tension in your shoulders, or the digestive issue. The 'root' is your foundational or constitutional condition and is the 'root of the issue'.
In East Asian medicine, we treat both. We treat the symptom so that you can have relief from that pain or discomfort. And then we additionally treat the reason why that pain or discomfort is happening in the first place - so that, the symptom will be prevented in the future.
What else about me? I love it when someone comes to me who wants to heal themselves naturally. We then have a shared goal and can set up a plan to get there.
What is my favorite thing to treat?
I love to solve tough problems. I love being able to provide relief from discomfort right away and then additionally, to solve the tricky issue of why that discomfort is happening in the first place. Sometimes this can take time and if we commit to it, we can make some lasting changes that improve your well-being considerably. This is what motivates me with every person I see.
What is my favorite point right now?
I'd have to say, Kidney 16 - Huangshu (Vitals Shu). It is located about 1/2 inch on both sides of the belly button. It is used for both digestive issues and menstrual issues and supports one's foundational Qi. I love belly points also because they are so grounding.

My favorite Qigong practitioner to follow on YouTube is @yoqi. She has a quick, one-minute qigong exercise for digestion. It is called 'Qigong for Digestion'. Check it out!
She has many great videos that are specific for all types of conditions.
What I love about Qigong is that it is simple, easy to follow and I feel great afterwards!

Foods to avoid in all types of constipation: all products with baking soda/powder, alcohol, tea, yeasted breads (except sourdough or sprouted breads), and refined foods, such as white-flour products, white sugar, and white rice.
If you have the excess-type of constipation - painful stomach cramping and/or bloating. Heat signs such as mouth sores, acid reflux or heartburn. Tongue coating is thick while the tongue itself may be normal (light red) to dark red with a purple hue - then other foods to avoid are meat, fats and other rich foods.

Aromatherapy can assist you in many ways. I love my diffuser in the clinic to set the mood. Each day, I think about who is coming in and then pick out the essential oil formula that speaks to me.
On this day, we had the Contentment formula going in the diffuser from @thearomatherapist_com. It is a blend of Ylang Ylang, Mandarin, Myrrh, and Lavender.

Sesame oil is a cool, sweet food that has lubricating qualities. Adding to your diet can help relieve constipation (and keep your skin moist!). Broccoli is a great source of roughage to assist in digestion as well.
1. Add chopped broccoli and salt to a large pot of boiling water and blanch until it is bright green. Drain immediately and plunge into ice water to cool. Drain and set aside.
2. Combine the sesame paste and water and blend until smooth. Then add all of the other dressing ingredients and whisk to blend.
3. Dress the broccoli and serve at room temperature.
Try this out and let me know what you think!

Chronic constipation is frustrating. Here are some ways to assist you at home. I'll be posting more advice/guidance for this condition throughout the month. Constipation is also the focus of my newsletter this month. You can sign up for my newsletter on my site - link in bio. And as always, let me know if you have any questions!
Laxative herbs are bitter and should be used carefully for those with the deficiency-type constipation, as it may further weaken digestion.
• Dandelion root
• Rhubarb root
Demulcent herbs lay down the mucilaginous intestinal coating which moisten and lubricate the intestines. Soak before eating or put in tea. Take equal parts of all three seeds - three tablespoons of the combination once or twice per day. If using just one of these herbs, also take the three tablespoons once or twice daily.
• Flax
• Fenugreek
• Psyllium
Black Sesame seeds can be used in stubborn cases. Up to one tablespoon can be cooked into or sprinkled on food twice daily.
During a crisis, a tablespoon of castor oil taken at bedtime is effective, but this method is not going to assist your issue in the long run. The seeds mentioned above will do more to treat deficiency and provide more long-term healing.

👂Finding emotional balance in today’s world can be a challenge. Today, I am sharing three key ear points I use with almost every patient: Shenmen, Sympathetic, and Zero Point. These little points might be small, but they do so much to support emotional regulation and overall well-being.
👂Each of these points has its own unique strengths. Shenmen is wonderful for calming the mind and easing stress. The Sympathetic Point helps the body settle out of “fight or flight,” creating space for healing. And Zero Point is all about realignment and balance, helping you find your center.
👂But the real magic happens when these three work together. There’s a kind of synergy that supports the body and mind in finding their way back to a sense of calm, clarity, and balance. I’ve found myself using them more and more because they’re so versatile, and they seem to help with so many of the things we all face—whether it’s stress, emotional overwhelm, or just needing a moment of reset.

☯️Not getting enough sleep can feel like torture. In East Asian medicine we look at night time as Yin time and daytime as Yang time. In each of us, we have Yin and Yang and at night, if we aren’t able to fall asleep or stay asleep, there is an imbalance of these two forces.
☯️In a healthy sleep pattern yin is sufficient to overcome the yang of the day to allow the mind & body to rest and restore. If either yin is deficient or yang is excess, the yin cannot overtake the yang which then causes sleep issues.
☯️Insomnia is a western societal epidemic, because we have become a yang society with screens, devices on constantly, working too much, worrying about personal, professional, and worldly issues. We take very little time to slow down, use our creative minds, meditate, give ourselves space for doing nothing. The balance has been lost. We’re in our heads, even when we are sleeping.
☯️In addition to treatment, add Yin activities into your daily life. An easy way to incorporate Yin into your life is to unplug in your typical routine, walking, running, driving, cleaning, whatever you already do, do it without music or a podcast or listen to meditation music instead. And maybe easier said than done but it will become easier when you notice your body relaxing and you start enjoying how it makes you feel.

“No Cold or Icy Drinks” - Acupuncturists always talk about staying away from cold or icy drinks and this is because they damage the Spleen. The health of your Spleen Qi is essential for many things that involve your overall health.
🌿The Spleen’s main function is to assist Stomach digestion by transporting and transforming food essences, absorbing the nourishment from food and separating the usable from the unusable part of food. It is also the central organ in the production of Qi: from the food and drink ingested. It extracts Food-Qi (Gu Qi) which is the basis for the formation of Qi and Blood.
🌿Diet plays an important role in the treatment of Spleen. The Spleen prefers warm and dry foods. ‘Warm” in terms of temperature and food energy. Examples of warming foods are ginger, pepper, meat. Examples of ‘cold’ foods are raw foods, fruit (with a few exceptions), some vegetables and icy-cold drinks/food.
🌿Acupuncture, herbal treatment, Qigong, along with some changes to your diet can help nourish your Spleen.
🌿If you are an over-thinker, do a lot of concentrating in your school or work, you may consider getting support for your Spleen.
