June 16, 2024 - Trauma Response Healing
We've been in Gemini season and are quickly approaching the Summer Solstice where the sun is at its brightest. I don't know about you but Gemini season for me is a time when my interests are peaked; I am motivated to learn about new things and can become overwhelmed with it all. If this resonates with you, know that thankfully, calming, Cancer season is soon upon us, when our minds will slow down, and we can absorb & assimilate all that we've learned.

Trauma Response Healing
As you may know, I am always seeking ways to broaden my knowledge, and fortunately, I am also required to take Continuing Education courses to keep my certification current. At present, I am enrolled in courses focused on healing community trauma during crises, using aromatherapy for trauma recovery, and promoting healing for restoration and balance.
I am participating in these trainings through Acupuncturists Without Borders. The mission of this organization is to "mitigate the destructive effects of trauma by alleviating suffering and fostering individual and community resilience." They offer training and mentorship for practitioners, provide direct services to communities affected by traumatic events, and support sustained community-based trauma relief initiatives. As a participant and member, I am eager to discover where this journey will take me and to contribute to the healing of our communities from trauma.
Traumatic Stress Response
June is National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. The term I've learned, 'Traumatic Stress Response,' resonates with me more than PTSD. It suggests that our bodies are responding to stress or trauma by protecting us when we encounter a traumatic event or experience. I view this response not as a disorder, but as a natural and primal reaction to stress, deserving of our compassion and empathy. Whether it's a car accident, a natural disaster, war, or other traumatic events, our bodies react to protect us.
The natural balance of Yin and Yang in our system is disrupted following a traumatic event. This disruption can be subtle or dramatic. In the clinic, we work to rebalance your system, the Yin and Yang, to help your body rediscover its natural rhythm. The healing process may be lengthy or brief; what's crucial is to allow your body to heal in its own way and time. Each individual is unique, and healing will occur in the timeframe that's right for each person.
In the middle of my worst pain, I was told that I would always have pain - and I refused to accept that.
In my journey through trauma, I found that healing did not follow a predictable path. There were profound lows and improved highs, each necessary for me to get to where I am today. I am grateful for what I’ve learned and how I’ve grown through my healing journey.
If you or someone you care about has struggled in healing from trauma, I would love to work with you/them. The power of acupuncture combined with intention can have a profound effect.
